OK class, here is a lesson I think that is very important for just about every situation in life. Respect, either it be at work or some place as carefree as gaming. Though I will not run into too much of it I am going to focus on respect in the gaming world. Anyone with a once of popularity has this, even if it is good or bad.
Lesson 1: Respect yourself.
To start getting any sort of respect you need to find out what qualities do you have that are respectable? I will use me as a example. First off, I am blunt and I do not beat around the bush. I don’t see what good it does to not just say what you want to say. Though I am referring to saying how you feel in a respectable manner I would not recommend going on a rant about how much you hate a person. Any issues you have just address it with the person, because in most cases they will listen and talk with you about it.
Lesson 2: To get respect, you must earn it.
How do I manage the kind of community I do? Respect is what I feel is the key. I don’t have girls act out in my community because I feel have dying respect for it. I listen to them and do all I can to provide a place where everyone is equal and has a voice. I will listen to each and everyone one of them if it made them happy. This over time builds their trust and respect in me.
I don’t also demand the respect of the people around me, I know my place and I know this isn’t something that is earned over night.
Lesson3: Don’t set yourself up to be disrespected.
Having pictures of yourself with all this cleavage doesn’t ask for respect. Sorry girls, but that is one of the fastest ways to lose my respect for you. I see you as girl gamers and not gamer girls. You put forth more so the fact that you have breasts and this is why you would get attention. Other than, hey you know what.. I just wreck that game and carried everyone cause I am that badass. Sorry, you kind of girls are on the bottom of my list along with the men who add girls just because of their gender and play into the girl gamer games.
Lesson 4: Respecting those you dislike.
So, are there people who disagree with my views of having a girl clan? Yes of course there are those who disagree which the sort of clan I run but that doesn’t mean they can’t respect me for it. Time after time there are those who have expressed their concerns or feelings and I listen. I explain myself and make sure I have everything out in detail so they can gather the whole picture from me. I have to remember they have views just like everyone else and I need to respect that hands down.
This was one of the hardest lessons for me to swallow in the military. I had plenty of people I didn’t like but to be able to work with them I had to learn that they are people above me and trying to lead me. They need to be able to have my respect as a follower and that starts the foundation of becoming a leader.
In ending.
If you cannot tell I feel strongly about respect. I believe it is one of the things that has helped me truly shape up any community/guild/clan I have been apart of. This isn’t my first rodeo. So please, respect yourselves and hold your tongue for a moment before you fly off the deep end. You will see it goes a long way.
